I’ve been wanting to build a “server uptime” app that optionally sends a text message to alert users if certain conditions are met. I can build the app part myself, but needed a solid way to send the SMS messages. In my pursuit of a solution for this, came across several reasonably priced solutions. Thought I would share them here, in case anyone is looking, as well as for my own notes/reference.

The best one I’ve found so far is Textbelt, which offers a simple SMS API that’s reasonably priced (and NO ads). Or you can download and host Textbelt on your own server.

I haven’t seriously tested any of these services (yet), but it looks like it’s straightforward to send text alerts from your app. I don’t think any of the services are free AND without advertisements. If you go free there are going to be ads. Otherwise for no ads, it will cost some moneys.

Tip: Good search keywords to use are: “send text message api” (without the quotes!).
